Pacquiao vs Bradley

It has been a controversial stretch for Manny Pacquiao as questions are raised about whether he still has the same tenacity that he used to have or not. Some people say that age is getting the better of him, as the fact that he is now in his mid-30’s will never bring back the strong fighter that he was when he was in his late 20’s to early 30’s. Yet another angle being seen as a definite influencing factor is the fact that he has not been able to focus too much on his usually rigid boxing training, considering the fact that he is a family man, preacher, celebrity and successful politician back in his hometown. People believe that all these have taken away his concentration on training, and have cost him greatly in terms of his performance as a boxing champion. Despite the number of theories being thrown around, Pacquiao found a way to vindicate his self as he victoriously put Timothy Bradley in his place on their rematch last April.

Boxing stars Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao first faced each other in the ring in 2012, with very controversial results. Bradley took home the belt with two judges scoring it 115-113 in his favor, and the third judge scoring it 115-113 in Pacquiao’s favor. It was Pacquiao’s first defeat in 7 years, and Bradley’s highest paycheck in his entire career.

Although there was no question about both boxers’ skills and boxing techniques, the whole world felt that Pacquiao was still better. The Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press scored it at 117-111 in Pacquiao’s favor, while HBO and ESPN both scored it at 119-109, also in his favor. Even other famous boxers, one of which was Oscar Dela Hoya, thought that it was supposed to be a win for Pacquiao. “Bradley should have refused the title belt,” Dela Hoya said, “Manny clearly won.”

As justice would have it, the clear winner emerged in the April 2014 rematch as the boxing champions faced each other again, this time with Pacquiao taking the belt home. With the judges scoring it at 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110, all for Pacquiao, the Filipino fighter has truly been vindicated. The world finally saw flashes of the old Pacquiao that they never thought would return, the fighter that they thought has been lost. His footwork was superb, and his angles were brilliant. In the end, he showed Bradley how to win boxing matches without anybody doubting how the victory was won.
